Crime Prevention

Coordinating Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design information with local residents and businesses

Neighborhood Watch:

Consists of 30 Neighborhoods spread across the Town of Sahuarita. The primary goal is to combine concerned citizens and law enforcement together to reduce crime.  Officers meet with residents on a regular basis to address their concerns. Who knows the community better than residents themselves? Through our crime prevention unit we educate residents on different ways to secure their homes, and be mindful of their surroundings. Being a good witness can be the best lead to help solve a crime. Another big event that the neighborhood watch promotes is National Night Out. This is a program promoting involvement in crime and drug prevention activities, strengthening police-community relations, and encouraging neighborhood camaraderie as part of the fight for safer streets. In September 2010, 19 neighborhoods participated in National night out; this included BBQ’s, Ice Cream Socials, Block Parties and just a general good time.

National Crime Prevention Council:

NCPC

The National Crime Prevention Council’s mission is to be the nation's leader in helping people keep themselves, their families, and their communities safe from crime. To achieve this, NCPC produces tools that communities can use to learn crime prevention strategies, engage community members, and coordinate with local agencies.

NCPC was founded in 1982 to manage the National Citizens’ Crime Prevention Campaign and McGruff the Crime Dog and to administer the Crime Prevention Coalition of America. Now 25 years after McGruff’s first TV appearance, more than 75 percent of children recognize McGruff and over 4,000 law enforcement agencies own a McGruff suit. That’s a lot of people who know how to "Take A Bite Out Of Crime!"

Over the next five years, NCPC will seize opportunities to address the challenges incumbent on the nation's -- and the world's -- premier center of excellence for crime prevention.  We will aggregate this work under a powerful unifying theme, Safer With McGruff.

88 Crime:

88 Crime

88-CRIME Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.  This is done by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.

88-CRIME Crime Stoppers provides several methods of anonymously submitting a tip which includes a telephone number, Web Tips and text messaging to encourage citizens in the community to give vital information that can be helpful to law enforcement in fighting crime.

Tipsters are always anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if the information given leads to an arrest or grand jury indictment of a felony offender.

88-CRIME Crime Stoppers relies on volunteers serving on a Board of Directors and also from tax deductible contributions donated by the  public in order to operate the administration of the program.
