Established in 2000, the Sahuarita Police Department has an active volunteer program, in which residents can devote time to helping the police department with a variety of tasks. These tasks include special events, office and clerical work, vacation home checks, fingerprinting, and more.

The VIPS program is designed to address the increasing demands on law enforcement by providing vital support functions. We have very high expectations of our volunteers and know that this program can make a significant difference in our service capacity.

Sahuarita Police VIPs wear a distinctive uniform and badge.

Explorer Post 693

The Sahuarita Police Department began the Explorer program in 2007. Participating boys and girls must be between the ages of 12 and 21, although the minimum age for attendance at the Explorer Academy is 13. This program teaches youth discipline, respect, leadership skills and team work.

This firstihand experience gives participants a chance to see police officers at work as well as in a personal setting. Explorers learn police equipment and procedures and provide numerous hours per month of community service.
